Social Networking
I joined the team of an early-stage startup in Delhi, India, where I was acted as their designer on contract, part-time. Here, I worked closely with the stakeholders to brainstorm new features and value-adds for the product, planned competitive audits, stakeholder meetings and built wireframes and working prototypes for the team. After finishing designs, I executed design documentation and collaborated with the external development team to develop parts of the web application. The screens have been rebranded to respect non-disclosure.

Understanding the Product.
What did the stakeholder want to create?
Stakeholder Interviews.
I started the design process with a set of video conferences with the founders of the startup, wherein they explained the product, targeted demographic, business goals and unique selling points. The product has a fresh take on social networks and focused more on social causes and their impact.
What does the product stand for?
Circle was a social network led by purpose. It would help like-minded people with similar ideas and motivation, come together and solve problems with social impact. This meant, we had to make discovery easier, and incentivise engagement, and investment.

Exploring the Solution.
What I came up with.
Initiatives
As a social network, the key factor to have the user come back after onboarding, is to ensure there is content to engage with. This goes along with promoting good content and making it more visible. We wanted the social challenges to be different from everyday interactions. The users can upload ‘Posts’, and if they have enough engagement and is verified, they can start ‘Initiatives’.
Metrics
Metrics help users identify more popular posts, and provides social proof. Boosts do exactly the same. They are upvotes which promote posts to more feeds. You can also invest ‘Circles’, an in-app currency, which are added to the user’s account using real money. The more Circles an initiative has, the more money the community has invested into solving it.

From Design to Development
What I ended up designing.
Iterating, and handing off.
Once we had enough ideas on the table, I wire-framed a few of them. After presenting these to the main stakeholders, I was able to get a considerable amount of feedback on what direction they wanted me to pursue, what worked for them and what didn’t. After a few iterations, I was able to meet all of the expected requirements and proceed further to completing high-fidelity designs. I followed the box model, and helped document design tokens for hand-off to the external development team.
